A Serana Wedding in the Texas Hill Country

Some of my favorite moments happen in the quiet windows of a wedding day, when there's no rush and nothing to perform. This was one of those afternoons at Serana — soft light, an open field, and time to let things unfold.

Most wedding days don't have a lot of slow moments. The morning moves fast, the ceremony moves faster, and by the time you sit down for dinner you're already halfway through the night.

That's why I ask every couple I work with to protect a little time for portraits. Forty minutes is usually enough. Not for posing. Not for a shot list. Just time to step away from everyone, breathe for a second, and let me photograph the two of you the way you actually are when no one's looking.

This shoot was a chance to show what that looks like when the day gives it room.

We started inside. Just the two of them, separately, in the kind of light that doesn't need anything added to it.

These are the photos I always tell my couples to make space for. The ones where you're not performing for the camera or anyone else. You're just there, in your dress, in your suit, before the day fully begins.

Then we moved outside. The light was soft, the field was quiet, and we had time.

That's really the whole thing. When you don't have to rush, the photos stop looking like wedding photos and start looking like the two of you.
